Oven-Baked Mac and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 lb macaroni noodles
  • 4 T butter
  • 4 T flour
  • 2 c milk, divided
  • 3 c cheddar cheese
  • Sea salt, as needed
  • Freshly ground black pepper, as needed
  • 1⁄3 c panko bread crumbs

Directions

  1. In a pot, bring salted water up to a boil and add in macaroni. Cook noodles until tender. Strain the noodles.
  2. In a separate pot, melt butter.
  3. Once melted, whisk in flour, salt, and pepper.
  4. Constantly stir roux until it becomes light brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Stir in 1c of milk and then stir in remaining milk.
  6. Once sauce thickens, stir in cheese.
  7. Add noodles to cheese sauce and stir.
  8. Pour macaroni and cheese into a casserole dish and top with panko bread crumbs.
  9. Set Cooking Rack in the slot 2. Place dish on Rack. Set to “Bake” at 350 ̊F for 12 minutes.
